Sandalwood pieces can be ground on a stone with a little water and saffron to create sandal paste which when applied to the skin especially the forehead has a cooling effect. In Vedic Temple worship in the summer months sandalwood paste is applied on the forms of the deities in the temples. It can also be cut into tiny slivers for burning on charcoal.
