Agarwood Incense

King Louis XIV of France had his shirts washed in rose water in which Aloeswood had been previously boiled. The Indian poet Kalidasa once wrote: "Beautiful ladies, preparing themselves for the feast of pleasures, cleanse themselves with the yellow powder of sandal, clear and pure, freshen their breasts with pleasant aromas, and suspend their dark hair in the smoke of burning Aloeswood."

This is the legendary "tree from the garden of Eden" where Adam and Eve were only allowed to take cuttings from the Aloeswood tree. Samurai warriors scented their armour with Aloeswood smoke, for luck, before going to battle and Lord Buddha was to have said that the smell of Aloeswood burning "is the scent of Nirvana".

It is also favorite of Lord Krishna. Egyptians used Aloeswood to embalm and anoint the dead. Eighth-century Egyptian jurist and poet Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi'I said: "Gold is just dust when still in the ground, and oud, in its country of origin, is just another kind of firewood.¨

Adulteration

You can be assured of this, pure aloeswood oil (and sometimes even the wood) cannot even be found in the great markets of Bangkok and Bombay. Most Aloeswood is diluted before it leaves the producing region. Once it gets into the hands of a trader, adulteration is certain. The average Aloeswood available in the US will have changed hands at least 10 times. By the time it reaches Bangkok, it will be a commercial product bound for the Middle East.

We are especially proud to make this extraordinary rare and precious resin/oil available to you and at an affordable price since we acquire it from distillers at source.
